If you have the option my first suggestion would be to get another brand DVDR. This is my second Toshiba DR430 I have tried - the first one did the exact same thing! Both of these units were refurbished with warranty by Toshiba. A couple of choices for you would be: A) get another DVDR that isn't overly trigger happy (Panasonic or one of the Magnavoxes w/hdd come to mind) or B) purchase a video filter to remove CP (or what your Toshiba is thinking is CP). I also noticed that the flicker flash will always occur it the same spot on the tape such as a scene where there was a change in lighting or movement. I even noticed a flicker when I was just playing a tape while it was going through he DR430 to the TV, not even recording to DVD! I tried another S-VCR (without TBC) hooked up to the DR430 and it still flickers so its not the VCRs or the cables since I switched out all of the cables and that didn't help. When playing back a tape just hooked up via S-cable to my TV, the picture is excellent with no flicker at all. It delivers crisp, clean video images, and can upconvert your DVDs to resolutions as high as 1080p via its HDMI output. Connect your cable box or satellite receiver, and you'll be ready to go with the push of a button. This flicker showed up on the finished disc when I played it back on several other units too. Easily record your favorite shows with Toshiba's DR430. You will need a tuner like a cable or satellite box or a digital tuner you can probably find at an electronics store (ie. This may help you realize the limitations and/or the possibilities. Then take a look at the CONNECTIONS section of the manual.

When I hooked this DR430 up and started to record to DVD, I noticed a flicker, sorta like a camera flash occasionally going off in the background. Google 'toshiba dvd dr430 manual' and click on the link 'Toshiba Dr430 Use And Care Manual'.

These old family tapes still look excellent when played back through a Panasonic AG-1980 VCR. I am transferring my old S-VHS tapes to DVD. I have a problem with a Toshiba DR430 recorder that I recently purchased.
